چکیده

C kidney diseases (CKD) is defined as abnormalities of kidney structure or function, present for >3 months, with implications for heal th and i s ca tegor ized based on cause, GFR category, and albuminuria.1 A population screening of 4712 subjects in New Delhi2 suggested that there are approximately 7.85 million chronic renal failure (CRF) patients in India and etiologically diabetes accounted for 41% of all causes. The Screening and Early Evaluation of Kidney Disease (SEEK) study analyzed 5588 individuals in 12 Indian cities and estimated the prevalence of CKD in India at 17.2%.3 The Tanker Foundation (www.tankerfoundation.org), a non-governmental organization (NGO) in South India, in an early detection and prevention program in rural and urban areas detected dipst ick prote inur ia in 24 .2% and an eGFR <60 mL/min/1.73 m2 was found in 7.7%.4 Diabetic nephropathy was found to be the commonest cause of CKD in crosssectional study using Indian CKD registry and about 48% of cases were in stage V at presentation.5

Selective Antibody Deficiency and its Relation to the IgG2 and IgG3 Subclass Titers in Recurrent Respiratory Infections

Background: Selective antibody deficiency with normal immunoglobulins (SADNI) may be identified as part of distinct primary or secondary immunodeficiency disorders. The clinical manifestations include recurrent, often severe or prolonged, upper or lower respiratory tract infections. Objectives: To evaluate SADNI in patients with recurrent sinopulmonary infections and its relation to IgG subclas...

Global Coverage of Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine (PCV) and Serotype Distribution after Receiving Vaccine among Targeted PCV Vaccine Countries: A Systematic Review

Background and Objectives: After the introduction of the pneumococcal vaccine, an increase has been observed in the disease due to nonspecific stereotypes of the vaccine. This study was conducted to determine the spatial distribution of pneumococcal vaccine coverage and common stereotypes of streptococcus pneumonia after vaccine introduction in the vaccine recipient countries.   Methods: The ...

Immunogenicity of 23-Valent Pneumococcal Vaccine in Children with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus

Background: Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic autoimmune disease which is characterized by B-cell abnormality and auto-antibody generation. Since bacterial infections are the most important causes of mortality in these patients, pneumococcal vaccination is recommended for children with SLE. Objective: To investigate humoral immunity and specific-antibody formation in response to a...

Survey of Obstetrics and Gynecology Residents Regarding Pneumococcal Vaccination in Pregnancy: Education, Knowledge, and Barriers to Vaccination.

OBJECTIVE The 23-valent pneumococcal vaccine is recommended for adults over 65 years of age and younger adults with certain medical conditions. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) state insufficient evidence to recommend routine pneumococcal vaccination during pregnancy, but the vaccine is indicated for pregnant women with certain medical conditions. We designed this project to...

The association of pneumococcal vaccination with hospitalization and mortality in hemodialysis patients.

BACKGROUND Few studies have examined the effectiveness of pneumococcal vaccination (alone or with influenza vaccination) in improving hemodialysis patient outcomes. We aimed to describe vaccination rates between 2003-2005 and to study the effects on outcomes. METHODS For 118,533 prevalent patients who initiated hemodialysis ≥90 days before 1 November 2003, had Medicare Part A and Part B and w...

Randomized, Single Blind, Controlled Trial to Evaluate the Prime-Boost Strategy for Pneumococcal Vaccination in Renal Transplant Recipients

UNLABELLED Renal transplant recipients are at increased risk of developing invasive pneumococcal diseases but may have poor response to the 23-valent pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine (PPV). It may be possible to enhance immunogenicity by priming with 7-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (7vPnC) and boosting with PPV 1 year later. In a randomized single-blind, controlled study, adult recip...
